How the spring week cycle runs

A spring week is a short programme, usually a week and usually around Easter, for first-year undergraduates. Firms call them insight weeks, insight programmes or discovery days, and some run them for second years on four-year courses as well.

Applications open from late August and keep opening through the autumn, with banks arriving in waves into November. Most firms read applications as they arrive and stop when they have enough, so a spring week can close well before the date it advertises. Applying in the first week or two of a programme opening is worth more than a better answer weeks later.

Online tests and video interviews follow from October to December, and some firms then offer the best of their spring week cohort a place on the next summer's internship.

Questions

When do spring weeks open?

The first open in late August and September, quant and trading firms among them. Banks open in waves through October and November. This page shows the ones open now, and an alert can tell you the day a new one appears.

Who can apply for a spring week?

Mostly first-year undergraduates, and second years on four-year courses at some firms. Each programme states its own eligibility on the firm's page, which is where the link on each role goes.

Is the deadline the real deadline?

Often not. Most firms read on a rolling basis and close a programme when it is full, so treat the stated date as the latest you could apply, not the time to.

Why is a firm I know missing?

Either nothing of theirs is open right now, or we cannot read their careers site. The openings page explains which, and you should check the firms you care most about yourself as well.
