How bank recruiting runs

Banks run two programmes that matter for students. Spring weeks, for first years, are a week inside the bank around Easter. Summer internships, for penultimate years, are the main route to a graduate offer.

Most banks open both between September and November, in waves, and read applications as they arrive. Online tests and video interviews follow within weeks, and assessment centres run through the winter.

Questions

When do bank spring weeks open?

In waves from September to November. Some close within weeks of opening, so it is worth having alerts on through the autumn.

What is the difference between the advisory and markets divisions?

Advisory works on deals for companies: mergers, acquisitions and raising capital. Markets trades with and for investors: sales, trading and structuring. The spring weeks often show you both.

Do banks only hire from certain universities?

Banks say they accept applications from any university. Each programme's page sets its own eligibility.

What comes after the application?

Usually online tests, then a recorded video interview, then an assessment centre or superday. Our mentors sat these in the last cycle and can run a mock with you.
